Cancer Types: Head and Neck Cancer

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]What is it? Cancer located anywhere in/near the mouth, nose, lymph nodes, throat and such is all characterized as head and neck cancer.  Most head and neck cancers are squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). SCC is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells arising from the squamous cells in the epidermis, the skin’s outermost layer. SCC is the second most common form of skin cancer.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="35px"][vc_single_image image="4561" img_size="large" alignment="center"][vc_column_text](Head and Neck Cancer Locations) Image by NIH National Cancer Institute {https://www.cancer.gov/types/head-and-neck/head-neck-fact-sheet#q1}[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]Symptoms The most common symptoms may include changes in the voice (hoarseness), trouble swallowing, sore throat that doesn’t heal, and lumps/sores that do not disappear. The Treatments (Part Three): Chemotherapy

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello everyone and welcome back to RadTec Medical Devices. Today, we will be discussing our third (and last) part coverage on the three main treatment options for cancer. For today’s topic, we will be going over chemotherapy. Things such as its location, the stage of cancer and even the type will have varying results. Factors such as a patient’s age and overall health will also...

The Treatments (Part Two): Surgical Therapy

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello everyone and welcome back to RadTec Medical Devices. For those of you just tuning in, this is the second (of three) part coverage of available options for cancer therapy. Today, we will be discussing the surgical treatment option for cancer. If you missed part one, follow this link: https://radtecmedicaldevices.com/treatments-part-one-radiation-therapy/. Surgical therapy uses operating procedures in order to remove tumors and any damaged tissue around the area. While being the oldest treatment, surgery is one of the most effective remedies to date. At first glance, one might assume the only use for cancer surgery is to locate the infected area and remove it. While that assumption isn’t wrong, there are many alternative reasons for surgical treatment. The term “cancer surgery” has vast utility. Your oncologist (a...

The Treatments (Part One): Radiation Therapy

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello everyone and welcome back to RadTec Medical Devices. Today, we wanted to discuss the first (of three) main treatment options that are available to cancer patients. Keep in mind that while these three treatments are the most common, there are even more alternative methods being used today and others still being discovered. Over the course of the next couple weeks, we will be providing general yet informative information that’ll help you understand what you or a loved one will experience while undergoing treatment. We will cover chemotherapy and surgical therapy in a future blog post; but for today, let’s start with radiation therapy. In simple terms, radiation therapy (RT, RTx and XRT for short) uses ionizing radiation that is delivered directly to the specified area...
